No one likes to think about their mortality, but with the rapid spread of COVID-19, practicality must take precedence over preference.
While older populations are statistically at higher risk, COVID-19 has proven fatal for people of all ages, even those without preexisting conditions. This makes it important to consider your estate plan, even if you are relatively young and healthy.
If you do not have an estate plan or if you need to make modifications to an existing estate plan, we are here to help. Call us today at (719) 694-3000 for a phone consultation or video conference to help you determine the best way to protect yourself and those you love.
Documents to Prepare Right Away
Documents that you will want to have prepared as soon as possible include:
- A will or revocable trust
- Healthcare directives, including a medical power of attorney
- Financial power of attorney
A majority of your estate can be handled through a solid estate plan and advance directives. Life insurance, retirement, and certain other accounts require a beneficiary designation. If you have not designated a beneficiary or if your family has changed and, along with it, your needs, reviewing your beneficiary designation is a good idea. This will need to be done for each account you hold.
